What is Joystream

Joystream is a decentralized video platform and blockchain. It's powered by the native $JOY token. There's also the video dapp Atlas using the underlying Joystream blockchain, where you can upload videos to your channel, build up your subscriber count, sell your videos as NFTs, and even create your own token for your channel so that people can invest in you, and those token holders can earn a share of the revenue you generate, get early access to your videos, and all sorts of cool things that you control.

Headquartered in Norway, Joystream was founded in 2015 by Behedo Mender. Its goal is to establish an ecosystem where content-creating/media platforms assume accountability towards the people they impact, their users and not just owners. Atlas and Pioneer are two of Joystream’s rapidly developing apps for content consumption and governance activities. Currently, the application empowers creators to mint NFTs through their videos while giving each channel an individual native token. When consumers of a particular creator invest in their product, they are eligible to enjoy the profits from the sale of NFTs as well as partake in other monetary successes of the creator.

Joystream aim to give video creators alternative ways to monetize their videos, and not solely rely on advertising, with the ability to sell their content as NFTs and to turn their channel into a token, so that anyone can invest in the creator, and earn a share of their revenue. Furthermore, Joystream is a blockchain that allows developers to build other applications on, opening up opportunities to create decentralized versions of video applications we are already used to, as well as completely new video applications.
