What is KRNL

At its heart, KRNL introduces "kernels"—modular, reusable execution shards that can be integrated into smart contracts. These kernels allow developers to break down complex code into smaller, manageable pieces that can operate across different blockchains without requiring custom-built infrastructure for each network. This approach aims to tackle some of the big challenges in Web3, like network fragmentation (where blockchains operate in silos), scalability issues (such as Ethereum’s high gas fees and congestion), and the complexity of cross-chain interoperability.

The kOS protocol acts as an orchestration and verification layer, enabling these kernels to enrich smart contracts with additional functionality—think plug-and-play features like AI integration, cross-chain operations, or real-time data retrieval without relying on oracles. For example, a developer could use a kernel to add a machine learning algorithm that analyzes on-chain activity or to enable gasless transactions through account abstraction.
