OpenWhat is Session
Session is an end-to-end encrypted decentralised messaging application. With no phone number required on sign-up, IP masking through onion-routing, and a resilient decentralised server structure, Session offers a unique combination of private, secure, and trustless communication.
Session Token is an EVM-compatible token which will be used to unlock premium features in the Session messenger (Session Name Service, Session Pro) and as a security and incentivisation layer for Session Nodes. Session Token will be deployed with staking and rewards functionality on Arbitrum One, an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution. It will be possible to bridge Session Tokens to and from Ethereum.
The Session Token is launching on Arbitrum One, a leading Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution, for its proven performance, reliability, and security. Creating the cryptographically secure Session Node registration and reward system directly on the Ethereum network would be prohibitively expensive. Arbitrum’s drastically reduced gas fees allow the implementation of the Session Network’s staking logic on an Ethereum-backed blockchain with much lower costs. Supported by a grant from the Arbitrum Foundation, Session should contribute significantly to Arbitrum's success in the future as one of the largest decentralised applications on its network.

Session Roadmap
This is where it all begins—the Session Token Genesis Event. It’s time to activate the Session Token contracts, transition nodes to the Session Network, and begin the Session Token Swap Program. Session Token’s decentralised communications economy goes online.
The first driver of Session Token’s utility flywheel. Stake, operate, earn rewards daily. The web portal lets you use the wallets you know and trust to stake in seconds. Contribute to the protocol and join Session’s decentralised physical infrastructure network (DePIN), secured by Session Token.
Buy, trade, and collect unique Session Names. Names are Session Token’s first piece of in-app utility, letting you easily add contacts, find friends, or flex your one-of-a-kind names. A marketplace for buying, selling, and mapping Session Names to Session IDs will be established. Tokens used for Session Names will be burnt as Session Network Fees, allowing new tokens to be added to the Staking Reward Pool.
A suite of premium features for Session messenger, unlocked with Session Token. In the Beta version, the first new features are launched, including badges and larger file attachments. Session Pro may be activated by paying Session Network Fees in Session Token, or via third party payment gateways that convert fiat to Session Tokens. These tokens are burnt as network fees, allowing new tokens to be added to the Staking Reward Pool.
The full power and functionality of Session Pro’s premium features is realized. The Beta feature set is expanded and continually refined to grow the Pro user base. More complex and intensive features are released. As more users activate Session Pro, Session’s decentralized communication economy grows stronger.
In-app wallets supporting Session Token and other cryptocurrencies are introduced. Users are able to manage staking, Session Node rewards, and premium features from within Session messenger. Other crypto integrations allow users to onboard into the Session Token ecosystem without leaving the app.
