What is Union

Union is a cutting-edge project in the blockchain space focused on creating a hyper-efficient, zero-knowledge interoperability layer. It’s designed to connect various blockchain networks—such as appchains, Layer 1s, and Layer 2s—enabling seamless communication, asset transfers, and decentralized finance (DeFi) applications across ecosystems. The core idea is to break down the barriers between fragmented blockchain networks, making it easier for developers and users to interact with multiple chains without the usual bottlenecks.

At its heart, Union leverages zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), a type of cryptography that ensures secure and private verification of transactions or states without revealing unnecessary details. This is paired with a consensus mechanism called CometBLS, an enhanced version of Tendermint tailored for fast and scalable cross-chain bridging. Union integrates with major blockchain environments, including Ethereum, Cosmos (via the IBC protocol), and others, and has partnered with players like Polygon’s AggLayer to expand its reach.
