What is Andrena
DAWN is a decentralized broadband network that allows users to share their Internet capacity with others, effectively enabling them to become their own Internet service providers.
Built on the Solana blockchain, DAWN combines protocol and hardware to create a trustless, on-chain system for user-owned connectivity.
The project originated from the Andrena WiFi team, which previously raised funding to develop decentralized broadband solutions. DAWN's Black Box is a key hardware component, serving as both a router and a decentralized node that powers the network and allows users to earn rewards. As a DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network), it empowers communities to build resilient, affordable internet access by deploying wireless nodes.
The network currently covers over 4 million households in the U.S., with major deployments in New York City and Las Vegas, and an international launch in Accra, Ghana.
Users can participate by sharing excess bandwidth, which helps extend coverage and reduces costs compared to traditional ISPs. DAWN aims to challenge centralized internet providers by distributing infrastructure ownership to the network's edge, fostering a more open and equitable system.
